Kawekaweau study no1 watercolour pen 51cm x 25cm

Studies to get a feel for the giant gecko. What the stuffed specimen looked like when discovered in the basement of the Natural History Museum of Marseille in 1986.

Kawekaweau Hunting a Little Barrier Giant Weta (for size comparison), Gouache and watercolour 77cm x 35cm

Painted after seeing a picture of a poorly stuffed museum specimen that was discovered in the basement of the Natural History Museum of Marseille in 1986, and wondered what it would have looked like if it was still alive.

Kawekaweau study no2 watercolour pen 51cm x 25cm

I drew these studies to get a feel for the giant gecko before starting the Kawekaweau Hunting a Little Barrier Giant Weta painting. This is what I think the 600 mm (including tail) long specimen may have look like when first stuffed.
